

Who We Are
At Family Counseling Service our mission is to strengthen children, individuals, and families. Family Counseling Service addresses mental health needs in the Coastal Bend by providing equitable access to mental health counseling. Mental health counseling is provided to those without insurance using a sliding-fee scale that is based on household income.
What We Do
Therapy Services
The core of services are individual, family, and group therapy for children, adolescents, adult, families, and senior citizens. The goal of all therapy programs is to help improve client(s) daily functioning and strengthen relationships through the use of clinical therapy. Clients process problem areas of functioning and learn to utilize new skills to cope and/overcome areas of dysfunction. Programs are as follows:

Trauma Resolution (Crisis Support Team)
Debriefing and support in areas such as witnessing of violence and other traumatic/distressing events (suicide, accidental death, airline disaster, natural disasters)
Education and Support Group Services
Parent Education Presentations
Community Education Presentations on Various Topics (anxiety/stress, relationships, anger, child coping skills, child behavior problems, community resources)
Collaboration with Suicide Survivors Group
Collaboration with Greater Coastal Bend National Alliance for Mental Health
Educational/Training Services
Practicum Student Program
Masters-level students from TAMU-CC and other universities complete a practicum under the supervision of a licensed supervisor. Bachelor-level students complete practicum with the Crime Victim Services Program.
Internship Program
Family Counseling Service provides supervision for Licensed Professional Counselor Associates and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associates.
Community Presentations
Other Programs include:
Nurse Family Partnership Program (Collaborative Program with the United Way)
Upon referral provides home-based supportive counseling for expectant mothers.
School-based Mental Health (Collaboration with Communities in Schools of the Coastal Bend)
Referrals are received from Communities in Schools case managers and school social workers. FCS therapist provides short-term therapy on campuses.
Crime Victims Services
Therapy Services for victims of crimes including homicide, intimate partner violence, child sexual assault, child physical abuse, adult sexual assault, human trafficking, aggravated assault, DUI/DWI, stalking, elder abuse, robbery, burglary, kidnapping and arson.
Information and Referrals and Case Management for services which may assist the crime victim and their families.
Advocacy in Legal System Assistance to the crime victims and their families in navigating the legal system.
Crime Victim’s Compensation Assistance with completing application for and accessing benefits.
